Female migration and housing in South Africa: Evidence from thre 2007 Community Survey

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between female migration and the demand for housing in South Africa. The study is based on demographic characteristics such as age, gender, population groups, educational level, and marital status. The migratory variables which will be the focus include place of birth, the duration of stay, place of origin and destination, while the housing variables includes housing tenure, type of dwelling, number of rooms, water, energy, sanitation, refuse removal, and rural/urban/provinces. Bringing together the demographic, migratory and housing variables, the study will seek to present the situational analysis of female migration, housing and other closely-related issues in South Africa. The study will make use of the 2007 Community Survey secondary data requested in Statistics South Africa. The cross-tabulation, univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis will be performed using the SPSS software.
