Analysis of HIV/AIDS prevalence and treatment progress in Uganda

HIV/AIDS is currently one of the biggest threats in Africa. In Uganda, HIV/AIDS claimed for over 64,000 lives in 2009. This paper seeks to present the most affected age groups, marital status, modes of transmission and the success story of HIV/AIDS prevention in Uganda. HIV/AIDS prevalence rate declined from 15% in the 1990s to 5% in 2001 and stabilizing at 6.5% among adults and 0.7% in children. Being higher in urban areas than in rural areas. An HIV/AIDS infections among monogamous relationships are now higher than in multiple partners. Currently, over 200,000 people in Uganda are receiving treatment, an estimate of only 39% of those in need of therapy. It's recommended that Uganda clearly needs to revive HIV prevention from only Abstinence, Being faithful & Condom use, but also to HIV testing and the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission, in addition to fighting other risking factors like drug abuse and prostitution.
